If you have a dry mouth, it means that your body does not produce enough saliva to maintain the required level of moisture in the oral cavity. Dry mouth happens when you start to feel nervous, upset or stressed.

However, if you have persistent dry mouth, which not only causes discomfort, but can also lead to other disorders throughout the body. Since saliva helps digest food, prevents caries and maintains the microflora in the oral cavity.

Some of the main reasons why the salivary gland does not produce enough saliva are:

  • Medications that reduce saliva production, including antihistamines, painkillers, diuretics, and more.
  • Chemotherapy – drugs used in the treatment make saliva thick and cause dry mouth.

Then you should contact your doctor so that the doctor changes the dosage of the drugs. Or you need to drink drugs that improve the secretion of the salivary gland. There are many different ways to fix this problem. Your dentist may recommend moisturizing sprays, rinses that can replace saliva.  Special mouthwashes, you can also:

  • Drink plenty of fluids and more often.
  • Don't drink caffeinated drinks, sodas, tea, they cause dry mouth.
  • It is recommended to chew chewing gum, sugar-free lollipop, they stimulate the production of saliva.
  • Stop smoking and drinking alcoholic beverages, they reduce the level of moisture in your mouth.
  • Spicy and salty foods reduce moisture levels, so it's best to avoid foods high in salt and spiciness.
  • Using a humidifier indoors is recommended.
